Highly recommend The Monster at the End of this Book for your pokenatural needs. Not only is it a whole pokemon au but it genuinely is one of the most wonderful fics I've ever read characterizations and plot and deancas' relationship and their bond with their own pokemon and the plot and twists and poc characters that are villainized in spn are treated so wonderfully and it's all SO GOOD

I’ve reached the point where I’m probably not gonna finish the rest of this series (I have dean and sam mostly sketched up but I just.. have no motivation to Really finish them), so have cas and his team, the only one I actually managed to clean up an really get done. pokenatural Rise

names and how they became a part of his team below the cut! (and the dean and sam sketches, I don’t want them to go to waste)

in order, from earliest to newest:

Aegie (Aegislash) - every angel has an aegislash bc every angel’s aegislash is an extension of themselves, and of their angel blade. it’s why cas’ has white and gray accents and a blue eye - all angels’ aegislashes look like that. it’s the grace. aegie was not called aegie before dean learned that cas had never nicknamed his very first partner pokemon. (cas, you will find, is not the Most creative at naming his partners.) aegie, being essentially an extension of cas and cas’ grace, doesn’t exactly have what one would call a ‘sparkling personality’, but, as cas learns more about humanity and emotion, aegie translates that outwards... whether cas wants it to or not

Raven (Corviknight) - another heavenly creature (again, you can see the grace in the eyes). heavenly corviknights are exclusive to seraphs, and cas received one when he was promoted. raven is FIERCELY protective of cas, often to its detriment (it picks a lot of fights), and frankly doesn’t much like the winchesters. really it doesn’t like much of anybody, except cas, but it will tolerate its master’s humans, so long as they don’t try to touch it. or breathe in its direction. this one also didn’t get a nickname until dean found out it didn’t have one, but cas decided to name it after an earthly creature when dean told him just shortening its name to ‘corvi’ was, and I quote, ‘not creative, man’

Honey (Vespiquen) - can you guess when cas caught this one? can you guess? if you said when he followed a combee in the garden while he was at the mental hospital, you’d be correct! it was pure coincidence he managed to befriend a female one (and befriend is the right word, he’s only ever caught any of his team members so he wouldn’t have to leave them behind whenever he had to travel). he thought of her name all by himself and he’s very proud of it. honey is the most chill of cas’ team, as well as the one with the best comedic timing. she’s essentially adopted cas’ larvesta as her daughter

Blade (Bisharp) - cas picked blade up as a pawniard when he first fell and became human, on his way to the bunker. blade was in a bit of a bad spot, too, so he attached himself to cas very, very quickly, and became very, very bitter when they were kicked out of the bunker. all he knows is that his new friend got hurt by this other human and now dean is basically permanently on his hit list. blade is also fiercely protective of cas, and gets very up in arms about the fact that raven was there first and is also taller than him. he has a temper

Fluffy (Larvesta) - as a seraph, fire types are attracted to cas whenever he’s on earth. sometimes it’s a problem, sometimes it’s hilarious, and sometimes a very determined larvesta follows cas for three miles back to the bunker so that she can cuddle up with him. he took her in on the spot. as the baby of the team, all of them keep trying to teach her different things and influence her in different ways, but she’s most attached to honey as the only other bug type available. she also just likes to scare dean by sitting on his chest when he sleeps and getting right in his face for when he wakes up. but other than that she’s an angel (no pun intended)

and here are the sketches for dean and sam. I have hcs about all their pokemon too but that would make this post... way too long. so hey

I added a fraxure to dean’s team and a mismagius to sam’s but... never wound up drawing them in. so just imagine them there, holding dean’s ursaring’s other hand as it runs along and hovering over sam’s alakazam’s shoulder to look at the book

Side Characters

The Bullies: Best of friends who love pokemon Battles and Specialize in Double Battles where they utilize their special Friendship combinations. Used Max as battle practice before they started their journey. Max wouldn’t admit it but he misses the battles when they leave.

The Journalism Club: Future newspeople who run the towns newszine which is somehow even less glamorous than it sounds. Suzy convinces the Collin and Dimitri join her on her quest to follow Max’s new crew and get to the bottom of why he chose them over her journalism team.

Lisa Violet Cody and Jeff: 4 trainers from Isabel and Ed’s hometown. They started their pokemon journey before Ed and Isabel did. Lisa wants to research buisnesses to one day open her own mega pokemart back home. Jeff wanted to try his hand at being a pokemon trainer to make new friends. Cody came along to support his best friend on his journey, and Violet tho should would never admit it didn’t want her best friends to leave her behind so came along for the ride. Figured maybe she’d find some sort of purpose on the way. The Activity Crew runs into them from time to time.

Dad Puckett: Max’s Dad. Moved to a New town for a fresh start a few years ago. Was once a pretty strong trainer apparently but settled down to raise his 2 kids With his wife. 

Momma Puckett: One of the Youngest Ever Pokemon Masters. Went missing on her last adventure. Dads not worried, apparently she does this all the time.

Zoey Puckett: The only thing keeping the store financially stable. Despite her young age she is very business savvy. Dad is just a figure head to Zoeys cutthroat ruling of Puckett mart.

(I like to think he’s speaking in enochian, but also he can communicate with all of them) bulbasaur daring dean to fuck around and find out. dragonair loves cas so much it’s unreal. big long snake baby, constantly wants affection. cas showing meganium the oddish who will eventually evolve into dean’s bellossom! and of course, good morning boops with combee.

so here’s Dean and his Little Lady, Growlithe refusing to leave Dean’s grave (Sam gave him the Samulet to watch over, and he comes and feeds him every day.) Dean meets Haunter on a hunt and can’t figure out how to banish him, so Haunter just follows him home and refuses to leave. Dean makes personalized meals for all his pokemon! Chansey teaching Dean how to cook for Sam when they were little. And of course, nap time with Salamance :)

abra teaching little sam to meditate/harness his psychic powers!! sam comforting cubone :’( eevee likes to watch him study! she just likes to be in sam’s personal space as much as possible. delphox and sam winchester are constantly judging you. houndour and little sam having a race! (houndour and growlithe were sam and dean’s first pokemon.) and of course, grooming time with absol
